Financial Aid Checklist
Complete the checklist below if you wish to apply for the following financial aid options: federal and state grants, federal loans, and/or the Federal Work Study Program.
Apply for Admission
You must be accepted into a financial aid eligible program at LTC to receive aid. You can complete the admissions application at anytime; however, your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will not be processed until you are accepted into a financial aid eligible program.
You may proceed to Step Two while your Admissions application is in progress.
Apply for Financial Aid
The most important step in finding out if you are eligible to receive financial aid is to fill out the FAFSA. Many students who could receive financial assistance to attend college miss this opportunity because they don't complete the FAFSA.
- View Steps to Submit FAFSA
- Review the Student Aid Report (SAR) that you will receive from the Department of Education after you submit your FAFSA.
Complete Documentation
Your next step is to receive a letter from the LTC Financial Aid Office requesting information required to determine the financial aid you are eligible to receive.
- The Financial Aid Office may request that you complete one or more forms. Before you can receive your aid, you must return all forms or documents requested by the Financial Aid Office.
Review Awards
Your next step is to receive an award letter from LTC which will contain information about your financial aid for the school year. Depending on your eligibility, you may receive an aid package that contains a combination of grants, scholarships, work study and loans.
Depending on the type of aid you are receiving, there are different next steps. View information on:

Receiving Your Aid
Review the items below to understand how the process of receiving your financial aid -- called disbursement -- works:
- Your financial aid awarded funds are applied toward your unpaid balance first, which includes charges you may have on the Payment Plan. If your credited aid exceeds your LTC charges, the Student Billing Department will refund you within thirteen (13) days of the applied credit.
- If your charges exceed your aid, you must pay the balance.
- Your total loan award for the aid year is disbursed equally among your enrolled terms.
- You will be contacted by the Student Billing Department to sign any funding received in the form of a paper check.
Helpful Tips to Avoid Delays
- Keep your address updated with LTC.
- Take care of "holds" which prohibit release of funds. LTC must return loan funds within ten (10) days of receipt if a hold is on a student's account.
If you have federal loans, be sure to review and complete the Loan Borrowing Requirements.
