Lakeshore Technical College Foundation Receives AT&T Innovation Award for Project G.R.I.L.L.

CLEVELAND - The Lakeshore Technical College Foundation was presented with a $4,500 AT&T Innovation & Investment Award today to support Project G.R.I.L.L. and its mission to teach high school students about careers available in manufacturing. 

Project G.R.I.L.L. (Growing Readiness In Learning and Leading) pairs high school students in Sheboygan County with manufacturing companies to build a customized grill from scratch.  The goal is to expose high school students to exciting technology and show them careers in manufacturing can be very rewarding. 

"We know our manufacturers are looking for workers to fill highly skilled, technologically advanced jobs," said Andrea Berlin of Project G.R.I.L.L.  "Our mission is to educate students and parents that manufacturing has evolved over time and is much more advanced and focused on technology.  This AT&T contribution will help us further our efforts to educate and encourage students to consider exciting careers in manufacturing." 

The contribution from AT&T will support Project G.R.I.L.L.'s mission to improve the image of manufacturing by exposing the community, educators, students and parents to the diverse career opportunities available in manufacturing within Sheboygan County.  Nearly 40 percent of jobs in Sheboygan County are manufacturing jobs.   

Project G.R.I.L.L. pairs eight high schools with eight manufacturing companies in Sheboygan County on a project to design and build eight custom grills from scratch.  The goal is to not only build excitement about the variety of career options within the field of manufacturing, but also provide mentors for the students.
