FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CLEVELAND, WI –
Lakeshore Technical College is launching a new program focused on providing skilled information technology professionals for manufacturing settings. LTC’s Manufacturing Information Technology (IT) associate degree program, which begins in fall 2018, was created from the ground up with industry feedback and helps bridge a skills gap in manufacturing environments.
“We worked with employers in the LTC community to develop the curriculum for the Manufacturing IT associate degree,” said Jim Lemerond, LTC dean of business and technology. “Before Manufacturing IT was created there was not a single program preparing IT graduates to work on equipment on the manufacturing floor. Now, our program will give program graduates skills in both information technology and electromechanical technology.”
The 60-credit program teaches students how to support every aspect of advanced manufacturing operations and to help companies function at peak efficiency. The program provides hands-on training with computer hardware, operating systems, application software, mobile devices, and networks. In addition, students will learn how to provide excellent customer service to the employees who fill the various roles they will support.
“The Manufacturing IT program is closely aligned with LTC’s IT Meta-Major,” Lemerond said. “This means that we have a nearly identical first-year curriculum as our IT Networking Specialist and IT Computer Support Specialist associate degrees. This gives students a year to grow a base of knowledge before stepping into the Manufacturing IT, or another IT-specific, course track.”
Students interested in the program can get started by contacting an LTC Career Coach at 920.693.1162 or CareerCoach@gotoltc.edu.
