Scholarships Awarded to Four LTC Students

CLEVELAND, WI —
Lakeshore Technical College Foundation recently awarded four students with the first ever Students of Color Scholarships. The scholarships were established to improve access to higher education for students of color and increase the number of students of color enrolled at LTC. The following students were recipients of the scholarship:
King Lee of Sheboygan was awarded $750 through the Students of Color Scholarship. Lee is currently a student at Lakeshore Technical College and is pursuing a degree in Information Technology Computer Support Specialist.
Nicole Tanner of Sheboygan was awarded $500 through the Students of Color Scholarship. Tanner is currently a student at Lakeshore Technical College and is pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education.
Leslie Byrd of Sheboygan was awarded $250 through the Students of Color Scholarship. Byrd is currently a student at Lakeshore Technical College and is pursuing a degree in Medical Coding Specialist.
Cheryl Taylor of Manitowoc was awarded $250 through the Students of Color Scholarship. Taylor is currently a student at Lakeshore Technical College and is pursuing an associate's degree in Nursing.
To be eligible for the scholarships, students must be a student of color in an underrepresented population such as Hispanic or Latino, American Indian, Alaska Native, Asian, Black or African American, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, or multiracial background. Candidates needed to demonstrate financial need, must be U.S. citizens or permanent resident and enrolled in courses leading to a full time associate degree program. Each candidate was required to submit a 500 word essay on one of four topics: leadership, community engagement, diversity and overcoming challenges.
The Lakeshore Technical College Foundation distributes more than 70 scholarship awards worth approximately $80,000 to students each year. The Foundation offers need-based, merit-based, program specific and general student support scholarships for Fall and Spring semesters annually.
