Health Occupation Entrance Assessment Information for Practical Nursing

After you have been admitted to the PN program, the next step to completing the enrollment process is to take the HESI admissions assessment. Watch your LTC student Email account for an Email letting you know you are eligible to schedule the HESI exam. The Email will also include directions on how to set up an account in Evolve prior to testing. Be sure to save your new Evolve USER ID and password! Print out the eligibility email and take it with you to your testing appointment. Make sure to bring your new Evolve User ID and password with you.

This test is designed to evaluate several areas that are essential for academic success. It measures an individual's ability in math, reading comprehension, vocabulary and general knowledge. We estimate the test will take approximately 3 hours to complete. Many students find it helpful to review the HESI admission exam study guides that are available in the library at the LTC Cleveland campus. There is also free online resources to help you prepare for the exam. There is a $37 fee (subject to change) to take the HESI Admissions Assessment.

A score of 70% is required on the English Composite component which is comprised of the Reading, Vocabulary and General Knowledge portions. Upon completion of the HESI, you will be given a printout of your scores immediately so you can view them. You will be emailed remediation materials if you do not meet the required scores. You must meet with the program advisor prior to retesting. You will have one additional opportunity to retest and must complete Medical Terminology, Body Structure and Function and Written Communication before retesting. Should you not meet the scores on the second HESI, completion of a healthcare technical degree program must be completed prior to the 3rd attempt.
