Students seeking SGA officer positions must be enrolled in a minimum of six credits; must have satisfactory academic standing (a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA if a returning student; minimum cumulative GPA must be maintained during office); and must be without documented violations of the LTC Student Code of Conduct (candidate records will be verified with Student Records);all candidates will undergo a background review conducted by the college’s human resources staff.

Candidates shall come forth from the student body. Whenever possible, no more than two elected SGA officers may be representatives of the same LTC program area; in the event three students from same program receive the highest number of votes for each office, the two students with the highest number of votes for each office will be deemed the winners; the student with the second highest number of votes who represents a different program will be deemed the winner of the office in question.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  1. Candidates must complete all steps for election eligibility and candidacy requirements below by 3 p.m. on Wednesday, September 6—SOONER IS PREFERRED.
  2. Complete/submit the SGA Officer Candidate Information below:
    1. Your program and your anticipated graduation date.
    2. Number of credits enrolled for fall term and anticipated number of credits in spring term.
    3. Cumulative GPA (grade point average) if returning student; new student, not applicable.
    4. The position you are seeking.
    5. Describe any relevant experiences/qualifications for this position (100 words or less).
    6. Explain why you want to serve on the SGA in this position (100 words or less).
    7. Confirm that you understand and accept the time commitments and responsibilities if elected.
    8. Completed forms are due no later than 3 p.m. on Wednesday, September 6; SOONER IS PREFERRED.
  3. Complete/Submit BACKGROUND INFORMATION DISCLOSURE Form—stop in Career Placement Center OR email tammie.stahl@gotoltc.edu to get the form and return it to Career Placement Center or tammie.stahl@gotoltc.edu. Some students may already have this form on file due to program or employment requirements—contact Tammie to confirm whether you need it.
  4. Contact tammie.stahl@gotoltc.edu or stop in Career Placement Center to schedule your campaign photo. All candidates are required to have a photo and written campaign message. Photo must be completed by 3 p.m., Thursday, September 7.
  • Online voting will be activated following the Candidate Expo on Wednesday, September 13 through Friday, September 15; closing at 11:55 p.m. Results will be communicated via email on Monday, September 18.
  • Electronic posters showcasing ALL candidates will be created and posted on the large flat screen TVs located in all campus buildings and emailed to all LTC students (candidates may not create/post additional posters or print materials to be left lying on tables in classrooms or around campus.
  • Official candidates are highly encouraged to interact with the student body (not just those in the same programs)—campaign for yourself and ask for support—create your own “buzz” and help to get out the vote. This can begin as soon as you are given “official” candidate status by Tammie Stahl, SGA advisor; sooner IS better.

ELECTED SGA OFFICERS: 2017-18 IMPORTANT DATES & REQUIREMENTS

Serving as an SGA officer is an honor as well as a commitment that will require you to work with your instructors to plan, in advance, for occasional flexibility to carry out your responsibilities.

THE FIRST OFFICIAL REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING OF THE SGA IS MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 12N – 1P IN ROOM L147. Newly elected officers will meet with Tammie Stahl and Foua Hang to prepare for this and all subsequent meetings (Monday, September 18, in the afternoon; for first monthly meeting prep; approximately two weeks before each regular meeting thereafter); officers may also be invited to occasional luncheon meetings with Paul Carlsen, LTC president.

LTC SGA PARTICIPATES IN WISCONSIN STUDENT GOVERNMENT ALONG WITH OTHER COLLEGES IN THE WISCONSIN TECHNICAL COLLEGE SYSTEM.

SGA officers (unless otherwise agreed upon by the elected officers, the president will serve as governor; vice president or secretary will serve as lieutenant governor; additional officer will attend as representative along with up to three other LTC student leaders) will represent LTC at Wisconsin Student Government meetings held statewide in October, December, January, February and April (may require overnight stays and pre-excused absences from class; travel expenses are covered by SGA). All student representatives must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA to maintain travel eligibility.

LTC STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION CONSTITUTION/BYLAWS EXCERPTS RELATED TO ELECTION OF OFFICERS

Article IV: LTC SGA Executive Committee Organization

Section 1: Election Requirements of LTC SGA Executive Committee Officers:

  1. Students seeking LTC SGA Executive Committee officer positions (president, vice president, and secretary) must be enrolled in a minimum of six credits each term for the full academic year; be in good academic standing (minimum 2.0 GPA if a returning student; minimum 2.0 GPA must be maintained throughout term); be without documented violations of the LTC Student Code of Conduct; and pass a background review conducted by the college’s Human Resources director. Failure to maintain minimum enrollment, academic and conduct standards will result in mandatory resignation from office.
  2. The LTC SGA Executive Committee officers (president, vice president, and secretary) will be elected by the LTC student body via an advertised online election process carried out no later than mid-September.
  3. The candidates will come from the student body of their own accord; student do not require nomination nor are they required to run for election for any reason.
  4. An elected LTC SGA Executive Committee officer may not run for the same position in consecutive years; however, he or she is eligible to run for a different officer position (if all other requirements are met).
  5. Whenever possible, no more than two LTC SGA Executive Committee officers may be representatives of the same LTC program. If three students from the same program want to run for office, the first two candidates to declare and meet all requirements will be placed on the ballot.
  6. If an LTC SGA Executive Committee position is without a candidate(s) at the time of the election, LTC SGA Executive Committee staff advisors will offer the open position to the second highest vote-getter among those candidates running for president (moving to vice president and secretary as needed). If there are no additional candidates to fill open positions, nominations will be taken from the floor and acted upon at the September LTC SGA meeting.
  7. Following the election, an LTC SGA Executive Committee student officer vacating a position within the academic year will be replaced via succession among the remaining officers; if more than one LTC SGA Executive Committee student officer position is vacant, the existing LTC SGA Executive Committee officer and staff advisor(s) will appoint student members of the LTC SGA to fulfill the terms for the rest of the academic year.

Section 2: LTC SGA Executive Committee Officer Responsibilities:

  1. The president must attend and preside at all LTC SGA meetings; serve as chairperson of the LTC SGA Executive Committee; act as a liaison between the LTC SGA, advisor (s), and the school administration and be available to conduct business between meetings of the LTC SGA Executive Committee and the LTC SGA; and represent the LTC SGA at monthly LTC District Board, other college administrative meetings and events as appropriate as well as LTC SGA Executive Committee meetings.
  2. The vice president must attend all LTC SGA meetings and will preside at all meetings in the absence of the president, perform the duties of the president when the president is unable to, assist the president in any way necessary; and is responsible for documenting mandatory LTC SGA student organization representation by taking official roll-call at the beginning of each meeting as well as during action item voting; be available to conduct business between meetings of the LTC SGA Executive Committee and the LTC SGA; and represent the LTC SGA at monthly LTC District Board meetings, other college administrative meetings and events as appropriate as well as LTC SGA Executive Committee meetings.
  3. The secretary must attend all LTC SGA meetings and will record attendance, document the proceedings and submit minutes of the LTC SGA meetings to LTC SGA advisor(s) within two weeks of each meeting; and will preside at all meetings in the absence of the president and vice president; be available to conduct business between meetings of the LTC SGA Executive Committee and the LTC SGA; and represent the LTC SGA at monthly LTC District Board meetings, other college administrative meetings and events as appropriate as well as LTC SGA Executive Committee meetings.
  4. In order to conduct official monthly meetings of the LTC SGA, a quorum of at least TWO LTC SGA Executive Committee student officers and ONE LTC SGA Executive Committee staff advisor must be present. If there is no quorum, no official LTC SGA business can be conducted.
  5. LTC SGA Executive Committee officers are highly encouraged to support and attend LTC SGA-sponsored activities as their schedules permit.
  6. LTC SGA Executive Committee officers are required to represent their peers and the college by serving as Wisconsin Student Government (WSG) representatives (following the LTC SGA election, LTC SGA Executive Committee Officers will reach consensus on who will act as WSG Governor and Lieutenant Governor; remaining LTC SGA Executive Committee officer will act as an additional WSG representative).

Section 3: The LTC SGA Executive Committee will consist of the student body-elected president, vice president, secretary positions and college-appointed LTC SGA staff advisor(s).

The duties are:

  1. To help coordinate activities of LTC SGA committees, organizations, and other related groups.
  2. To conduct business demanding immediate attention that may arise between official LTC SGA meetings.
  3. To plan the agenda for the LTC SGA meetings.
  4. To represent the LTC SGA at statewide meetings of the Wisconsin Student Government (WSG).
  5. To review policy and procedures which pertain to student welfare and notify students and administration of findings and recommendations.
  6. LTC SGA Executive Committee staff advisor(s) will have the authority to conduct necessary business during breaks in the student academic calendar as needed.
