Plumbers & Steamfitters union donates $25K to establish scholarships at Lakeshore College

Students pursuing careers in welding or heating, ventilation and air conditioning will benefit.

The Plumbers & Steamfitters UA Local 400 union donated $25,000 to the Lakeshore College Foundation to establish a scholarship fund that will provide financial assistance to students interested in training for careers in welding or heating, ventilation and air conditioning.

“We appreciate the ongoing commitment the Plumbers & Steamfitters UA Local 400 union has to workforce development. This new scholarship fund will directly reduce financial barriers for students and make it easier for more individuals to pursue careers in welding and HVAC, both of which are high-demand fields,” said Lakeshore College President Dr. Paul Carlsen.

Students enrolled in HVAC installation, welding fabrication, and industrial welding programs can apply for scholarships through the AwardSpring app in their student portal.

The three programs are delivered through Lakeshore’s competency-based education format, which allows students to accelerate their learning while receiving personalized coaching and support. Frequent start dates allow students to begin when it’s convenient for them. Each program can be completed in two terms.

Information about the programs can be found at gotoltc.edu/programs-and-courses
