CLEVELAND, WI —

Six students from Lakeshore Technical College recently earned gold and silver medals at SkillsUSA, an event which challenges students in trade, industrial, technical, and health occupation programs to apply their classroom learning in a competitive environment. Students focus on using their technical skills along with communication and troubleshooting skills as they compete against students from other technical colleges around the state. The competition was held in Madison.

“Skills USA was a valuable learning experience and awesome way to see how LTC’s education compares to other colleges,” said LTC student Derek Teunissen.

“This event is a great opportunity for our students to experience competing against their peers at other technical colleges,” said Sheila Schetter, LTC dean of advanced manufacturing, agriculture, automotive, and engineering. “Having six students in four categories advance to the national level competition is excellent,” she added.

Earning gold in the Robotics and Automation team competition were Jack Blashka and Derek Teunissen.

Earning gold in the CNC Milling Specialist competition was Matt Berry.

Earning silver in the Mechatronics team competition were Christopher Russell and James Gutierrez.

Earning silver in the Related Technical Math competition was Brenden Olds.

The students qualified to compete at the national SkillsUSA competition to be held in Louisville, Kentucky, June 24-28.
