CLEVELAND, WI —

Lakeshore Technical College awarded degrees to over 400 students during its commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 19.

LTC President Dr. Paul Carlsen welcomed the students and attendees, and shared a few words of congratulations.

“I was reminded by someone very important to me that today we are celebrating a beginning, not an ending,” Carlsen said. “That is, after all, why we call it a commencement. So congratulations on this new beginning.”

Dr. Joseph Sheehan was the keynote speaker. Sheehan has served as superintendent of the Sheboygan Area School District for the past 19 years and is also a member of the LTC District Board.

“I encourage you to live your life based on the Hedgehog Concept developed by the author Jim Collins,” Sheehan told the graduates. “The Hedgehog Concept flows from the intersection of three circles: what you are deeply passionate about, what you can be the best in the world at, and what best drives your economic engine. For you, this means be good at what you do, be happy, and know what is important to you. Knowing this will get you to the future you want. Know your hedgehog and follow it.”

Michelle Sanders of Sheboygan was the student speaker. Sanders graduated with an associate degree from the Health Information Management program.

“Whether we are here graduating with a technical diploma or an associate degree or even both, whether it has only taken us a few months to get to this place or multiple years, we should be proud!” Sanders told her fellow graduates. “Gathered here with all of our peers, instructors and loved ones, recognize that this is a great day of celebration and of accomplishment. And, on this day, in this moment, we are here together to be recognized for an incredible life-changing achievement.”

John Lukas, Chair of the LTC District Board, and Carlsen concluded the ceremony by presenting and conferring all degrees and technical diplomas.
