CLEVELAND, WI —

Lakeshore Technical College has been named to the Military Friendly® Schools list for the 10th consecutive year by Viqtory, a media entity for military personnel transitioning into civilian life. LTC earned a 2019-20 Silver Award designation which recognizes the top 20 percent of colleges, universities, and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans, and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.

“We are eternally grateful to those who served in our military. LTC’s designation as a Military Friendly college for 10 consecutive years is affirmation the support systems we have in place specifically for veterans are having a positive impact,” said LTC President Paul Carlsen.

LTC routinely works with County Veterans Services, Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs and the Federal VA to ensure veterans have every available resource to be successful. LTC’s newest military-friendly effort is that veterans are now eligible to receive up to nine credits for prior learning. The credits apply to specific courses and are based on years of service and honorable discharge.

At the state level, LTC processes National Guard Tuition Grant Applications, Retraining Grant Applications for veterans who are dislocated workers, and VetEd Reimbursement Grants. Through the Wisconsin GI Bill, veterans and their dependents are able to apply for tuition and material fee waivers.

LTC processes federal benefits for eligible veterans and dependents. Over 100 students are served on an annual basis in this program. Also, the Veterans Priority Registration program allows any veteran with an honorable discharge to receive priority registration privileges.

LTC competed for this title by completing a survey of over 100 questions covering six categories, including military student support and retention, graduation and career, and academic policies and compliance.
