Phi Theta Kappa Announces New Officers at Lakeshore Technical College

CLEVELAND, WI —
Seven new officers for the Beta Lambda Sigma chapter of Lakeshore Technical College’s Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society were given their oath of office recently. The students will serve as officers for the upcoming school year.
Phi Theta Kappa is recognized as the official honor society for community colleges by the American Association of Community Colleges. Membership is based on superior academic achievement. PTK recognizes and rewards high-achieving students and provides opportunities to develop skills such as problem solving, project planning, team building, effective communication and conflict resolution.
The newly elected officers are Kailey Smidel, PTK Chapter President; Cailin Fournier, Vice President of Leadership; Julia Sievers, Vice President of Scholarship; Jamie Feldman, Vice President of Fundraising; Amanda Montez, Vice President of Fellowship; Cynthia Lopez, Vice President of Leadership; and Andrea Fink, Vice President of Membership.
Smidel, Fournier, Montez, Lopez and Fink are enrolled in the Administrative Professional program; Sievers is enrolled in the Practical Nursing program; and Feldman is enrolled in the Business Management program.
“Becoming the president of Phi Theta Kappa has opened me up to extraordinary opportunities like traveling, leadership, and meeting new people,” said newly elected PTK Chapter President Kailey Smidel. “I look forward to learning and growing with this honors society throughout the year."
Among many duties, the PTK officer team hosts guest speakers to help students prepare for their life after college, collaborates with college administration to advance the mission of LTC, plans service involvement opportunities and participates in various PTK leadership development workshops sponsored at the state and national level.
PTK advisors are Sue Kinneston, LTC Testing Services Manager, and Mary Kultgen, LTC Instructor.
“Serving as a Phi Theta Kappa officer helps LTC students practice concrete employable skills, and grow as scholars and leaders. It’s exciting to see their growth!” says Kinneston.
