49 Students Pass Essential Worker Certifications at Lakeshore Technical College in December
Lakeshore continues training frontline workers to help fight the pandemic

CLEVELAND, WI – Forty-nine students successfully passed public safety certification exams held at Lakeshore Technical College in December. Among them, 27 completed their National Registry of Emergency Technician’s psychomotor exams. The psychomotor exam analyzes skills needed for patient assessment in trauma and medical situations, patient ventilation, oxygen administration, and cardiac arrest.
To meet COVID-19 safety protocols, students rotated in groups of six throughout the two days of testing. This included 21 candidates at the level of emergency medical technician and six at the level of emergency medical responder.
The remaining 22 candidates were firefighting students with 16 completing their Firefighter Level II certification skills testing that included flammable liquids firefighting skills, incident management and communication tests, and a vehicle extraction test station. Additionally, six students completed their fire apparatus driving and operating skills tests to prove their abilities to safely drive large fire apparatus and operate fire pumps.
“With the COVID pandemic creating challenges for education as well as shortages of essential public safety workers, we are proud to graduate these students on time, with the knowledge and skills their communities need right now,” said Lakeshore Dean of Energy and Public Safety Ryan Skabroud. “We hope that many of these students will be back with us next semester for advanced education to grow in their capacity for serving the Lakeshore region.”
Skabroud added graduates of Lakeshore’s public safety programs are in demand. The college’s most recent data show 100 percent of the fire medic and emergency medical technician-paramedic program graduates were employed in their fields.
