Apprentices Honored at Completion Banquet

CLEVELAND, WI —
More than 60 apprentices were honored at Lakeshore Technical College’s annual Apprenticeship Completion Banquet held May 20 at Millhome Supper Club in Kiel.
The banquet recognized the completion of the paid-related classroom instruction for individuals in apprenticeship programs. In these programs, workers earn while they learn the practical and theoretical aspects of highly skilled occupations. Apprentices are sponsored by employers, and paid hourly wages to attend LTC in their specific trades.
The guest speaker was Wisconsin Workforce Development Secretary Caleb Frostman who pointed out that in 1911, Wisconsin was the first state in the nation to adopt a statewide Registered Apprenticeship program.
“More than a century later, Wisconsin hosts more than 13,000 registered apprentices and is growing as we expand to new apprentice fields in growing job markets,” Frostman said. “And as we look to continue investing in this program and its excellent outcomes, we will do so with input from the folks in this room, to see how we can better support working families and businesses, close any skills gaps, and adequately train our future workforce.”
