Drive-Through & Virtual Celebrations Return May 22 for Lakeshore Technical College Graduates

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

5/20/2021

CLEVELAND, WI —

More than 510 Lakeshore Technical College students will be recognized Saturday, May 22 for completing their educational journeys. Almost 450 Lakeshore students will be awarded college degrees and technical diplomas and more than 60 Lakeshore students will be awarded General Education Development (GED) certificates and High School Equivalency Diplomas (HSED).

A virtual event will stream live on Lakeshore’s Facebook page and YouTube channel at 9 a.m. A drive-through celebration for students and their families is set for 9-10:15 a.m. on the college’s Cleveland campus to celebrate the GED and HSED graduates. From 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., students and their families are invited to attend a drive-through celebration on the college’s Cleveland campus. A virtual event will stream live on Lakeshore’s Facebook page and YouTube channel at 5 p.m.

“These graduates completed their education during a global pandemic, and I am proud of them,” said Lakeshore President Dr. Paul Carlsen. “I admire the dedication and grit they showed, and I am confident those traits will help them achieve success in the workforce.”

According to Lakeshore, the college chose to host a drive-through celebration due to the ability to commit to and plan for it when uncertainty about holding in-person events was still high. In addition, student feedback following Lakeshore’s December 2020 drive-through was very favorable. Drive-through celebrations will take place in Lakeshore’s west parking lots, located next to the Nierode building. Backdrops will be provided for taking photos with family. Academic deans, leadership team members, and district board members will congratulate students in person and be available for photos.

Several traditional activities are included in the virtual event including remarks from Carlsen, the chair of the Lakeshore Board of Trustees, Roy Kluss, and a speech from Lakeshore student Maria Paradiso. Paradiso, a 2019 graduate of Two Rivers High School, is graduating from the college’s accounting program. Students had the opportunity to receive caps, gowns, honor medallions, honor society stoles, and military honor cords so they can dress in the traditional manner for the drive-through and virtual celebrations.

All buildings on Lakeshore’s Cleveland campus will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Academic deans will be in their respective areas to congratulate students, who are welcome to take photos. The bookstore will also be open.

Individuals do not need to have a Facebook page to view the celebration on Lakeshore’s Facebook page. For those without a Facebook page, the college recommends using Google Chrome to view the video or viewing it from the college’s YouTube channel. For future viewing, links will be added to the college’s website at gotoltc.edu/Lets-Celebrate on Monday.
