Lakeshore Technical College District Board Welcomes New Members and Elects Officers

CLEVELAND, WI —
The Lakeshore Technical College District Board of Trustees welcomed one new member and reappointed two members at the board’s annual organizational meeting July 8. It also elected officers for the next term.
LTC is governed by a nine-member board appointed by the county board chairs of the counties making up the Lakeshore district: Calumet, Manitowoc, Ozaukee, and Sheboygan. It consists of two employer members, two employee members, three additional members, one elected official member who holds a state or local office, and one school district administrator. Board members meet monthly and serve staggered three-year terms.
Roy Kluss has been reappointed as an employee member. As the alternatives to incarceration coordinator for the Sheboygan County Detention Center, he administers the inmate work release, day reporting, and electronic monitoring programs. He has been recognized for his work in the community with the Sheboygan County Award of Excellence, Curtis and Associate's Project Excellence award, and LTC's Community Service award. He is a board member of Simplify, City of Sheboygan Transit Commission, Sheboygan Area Credit Union, and Tee-Box. He is also a member of the Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Institute. Kluss has served on the LTC board since 1997.
John Lukas has been reappointed as an employer member. He is retired from his role as vice president of LDI Industries, Inc., and is currently the owner/manager of JSL Real Estate, LLC and Abbey Ridge, LLC. In recognition of his commitment to technical education, he has been the recipient of several honors including Youth Apprentice Business Partner of the Year for Manitowoc County award, Governor’s Exemplary Employer award, LTC’s Apprenticeship Medallion award, and LTC’s Educational Leadership award. He is the only three-time winner of the District Board Association’s Board Member of the Year award. Lukas is also an active member on program advisory committees, the Lakeshore Area School to Work Consortium, and the Chamber’s Workforce Development Committee. He currently serves on the board of directors and Bylaws Committee for the Association of Community College Trustees. Lukas has served on the LTC Board since 2001.
Monica Nichter has been appointed as an additional member. Nichter has held numerous roles in healthcare throughout her career, most recently as the director of managed care and fund development at Holy Family Memorial, Inc. She has a Master of Science in nursing from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Nichter is a Rotarian for Manitowoc’s Sun Rise Rotary, and a member of the board of directors and finance committee at Shady Lane, Inc.
Board officers elected for the next term were Kluss, chair, Lois Vasquez, vice chair, and Don Pohlman, secretary/treasurer.
Lois Vasquez is a production technician at Kaysun Corporation. She holds an associate degree in applied science, IT network specialist, from Lakeshore Technical College. While earning her degree, Vasquez served as Student Government Association secretary, Phi Theta Kappa secretary, and Wisconsin Student Government representative. She volunteers with Green Acres Boxer Rescue. Vasquez has served on the LTC Board since 2015.
Don Pohlman is mayor of Plymouth. He holds an accounting and business administration degree from Concordia University. Pohlman served in the U.S. Army as a medic during the Vietnam Era. He is a life member of the VFW Post 5612 Plymouth and a 38-year member of American Legion Post 243 Plymouth. He is also a 40-year member of the Plymouth Rotary Club, a Boy Scout merit badge counselor, and serves on the board of directors for his church. Pohlman has served on the LTC Board since 2015.
