CLEVELAND, WI —

The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) has awarded Lakeshore Technical College faculty member Jeremy Pagel the 2021 Dale P. Parnell Faculty Distinction Recognition. Lakeshore was the only college in Wisconsin to have a faculty member selected. Faculty at Lakeshore have been recognized three of the four years the program has been in place.

Pagel, a sociology instructor, will be recognized by the AACC in a virtual ceremony May 20 along with 22 faculty from around the country who were also recognized.

“As a sociology instructor in today’s sensitive environment, Jeremy’s passion for helping students discover and learn to evaluate for themselves the many facets of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion is sincerely appreciated. His innate ability to build trust with his students by being open, vulnerable, and real is admirable,” said Lakeshore President Dr. Paul Carlsen.

Pagel joined Lakeshore in 2007. In addition to teaching, he serves on Lakeshore’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee as co-chair and is a member of the college’s Multicultural Advisory Committee member.

Previously recognized faculty at Lakeshore include David Saunders, welding Instructor and program coordinator, in 2018 and Paul Benfield, information technology network specialist instructor, in 2019.

Named in honor of former AACC President and CEO Dale P. Parnell, the association established the Dale P. Parnell Faculty Distinction Recognition to honor individuals making a difference in the classroom. Criteria for nominees include: demonstrating passion for the students and the classroom; showing a willingness to support students, in and out of the classroom; participating in college committees; and going above and beyond what is required to ensure that students are successful in their academic endeavors.
