CLEVELAND, WI —

The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) has named Lakeshore Technical College faculty member Paul Benfield a national recipient of its Dale P. Parnell Distinguished Faculty designation. LTC was the only college in Wisconsin to have a faculty member recognized, and one of nine colleges nationwide to have a faculty member recognized two consecutive years. LTC Welding Instructor and Program Coordinator Dave Saunders received the award last year, in its inaugural year.

Named in honor of former AACC President and CEO Dale P. Parnell, the association established the designation to recognize individuals making a difference in the classroom.

Benfield, an information technology network specialist instructor who has been at LTC since 2000, received his award during the annual AACC convention held in Orlando, Fla., on April 14.

Criteria for nominees included: demonstrating passion for the students and the classroom; showing a willingness to support students, inside and outside of the classroom; being inclined to participate in college committees; and going above and beyond what is required to ensure that students are successful in their academic endeavors.

“From the time I began at Lakeshore Technical College two years ago, Paul has stood out as an instructor and leader to whom students gravitate. Everything he does is for the benefit of students,” said LTC President Paul Carlsen. “His passion for helping students both in and out of the classroom is evident to all our team members and community partners. Students taking his classes are extremely well prepared for the workforce, more than ready to share their newfound knowledge and experience with employers.”
