CLEVELAND, WI —
Transfer agreements at Lakeshore Technical College provide current and future students with seamless options to transfer courses and programs to public and private four-year colleges. In addition, a new online tool is available to make transferring credits easier and more efficient in Wisconsin. Lakeshore offers transfer agreements with all UW System universities and 18 additional four-year institutions, including over 300 program and course transfer options.
“After choosing LTC as a high quality, affordable, and convenient start to their programs, we see about one in three of our graduates continue their education,” said LTC Vice President of Instruction James Lemerond. “Now, more than ever, students are looking for a way to stay close to home, but continue their education. According to a National Center for Education Statistics study, students who choose to delay the start of their college journey are at considerable risk to not complete a postsecondary credential when compared with their peers who enroll immediately after graduating high school."
LTC students wanting to transfer to private colleges in Wisconsin will benefit from a new agreement announced between the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) and the Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (WAICU). More than a dozen popular introductory or general education courses are included, such as chemistry, psychology, and speech. All 16 technical colleges and 15 private colleges are participating in the agreement. Technical college credits will count toward admission requirements for a bachelor’s degree at the respective private college, provided the student earned a grade of C or better within the last 10 years. Technical college students must also meet the admissions requirements of the private college. Similarly, a new agreement with Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) is available for LTC students. Graduates who have an associate degree in a technical field may transfer to MSOE with junior standing in the university’s new Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program focused on Technical Sales.
A significant advantage to students completing their associate degree at LTC and then transferring to a four-year university is they can save approximately $6,000 in tuition and fees. These agreements also minimize the time it takes for students to earn their bachelor’s degrees by avoiding retaking courses that will not transfer.
To allow students to view easily course equivalencies between Lakeshore and University of Wisconsin System campuses, a new online tool, Transferology, is available. Students can also enter and store coursework, and request an evaluation of transfer work at one college against a program at another college. Using the tool will help students save time by avoiding taking classes that may not transfer to a four-year UW college.
