Financial Aid - Grants
Grant monies under normal circumstances do not need to be repaid. The following grants are awarded at Lakeshore College to those students enrolled in a financial aid eligible program as one of the eligibility requirements.
Federal Grants
- Pell Grant is awarded to undergraduate students enrolled for a minimum of one credit with high financial need based on the student's aid index (SAI). The actual awards vary based on the number of enrolled credits. Pell has a lifetime limit of 12 semesters of fulltime equivalency enrollment.
- The Children of Fallen Heroes Scholarship Act was signed into law on March 23, 2018. It is need-based and awarded to students whose parent or guardian died as a public safety officer. Pell-eligible students with a Pell-eligible SAI who are less than 24 years old or enrolled at the time of the parent or guardian's death will have an automatic zero SAI for the Pell Grant. This will result in the maximum Pell grant being awarded.
- Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) is a need-based grant available on a first-come, first-served basis to students in extreme financial need that and are enrolled at least half-time. SEOG is awarded at $400 per term.
Wisconsin State Grants
- Wisconsin Grant-Technical Colleges is available to students who are Wisconsin residents and enrolled at least half-time. The grant is based on financial need.
- Native American Grants (WIA, BIA) are available through the Wisconsin Higher Educational Aids Board and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The grant amount is based on need. In addition to completing a FAFSA, students must also complete a separate Indian Scholarship Application which is obtained from their tribal education office for the purpose of certifying the student's degree of Indian blood.
- Minority Retention Grant (MRG) is available to minority students who are Wisconsin residents in the second year of a two-year program, maintain a 2.0 grade point average, and meet the financial need criteria. Minority status is determined by the data on our system and awarded after the school year has started. The minimum award is $250 and the maximum award is $2,500.
- Talent Incentive Program (TIP) is designed for first-time students who are economically and/or academically disadvantaged and is a need-based program. The award varies from $250 to $1,800. Applications available at at https://dpi.wi.gov/weop/tip-grant.
- Hearing & Visually Handicapped Student Grant is available to Wisconsin residents who are hearing impaired or visually handicapped and who also demonstrate financial need. Applications are available online at http://www.heab.state.wi.us/programs.html. The award varies from $250 to $1,800.
- Wisconsin Academic Excellence Scholarship recipients are chosen by their high schools as academic scholars. Students must be enrolled full time in associate degree programs and maintain a 3.0 grade point average. Academic Excellence Scholarship (AES) is non-need based and is $2,250 per year.
- Wisconsin Technical Excellence Scholarship recipients are chosen by their high schools as excelling in technical skills. Students must be enrolled at least half-time in associate degree programs and maintain a 3.0 grade point average. Technical Excellence Scholarship (TES) is non-need based and is $2,250 per year.
- Wisconsin Covenant Grant is a non-need based grant for students that enter into a contractual agreement with the Wisconsin Higher Educational Aids Board and graduating between 2011 and spring 2015. Students must be at least half-time and complete the FAFSA and the Wisconsin Covenant Pledge and Confirmation Form.
