You’ve read the scrolling captions for the hearing-impaired on your TV screen. The person providing this instantaneous text of programs is trained in realtime transcription techniques and technology. These skills can also be used to provide communication access realtime translation (CART) for hearing-impaired students in educational and public settings. If you’re an excellent listener, have strong language and communication skills, are committed to accuracy and able to work on deadlines, a career in broadcast captioning may be a perfect fit for your talents.

Lakeshore Technical College shares this program with Fox Valley Technical College and Northeast Wisconsin Technical College students and also offers an opportunity for students to complete the program at the Lakeland University-Milwaukee campus. Classes are scheduled efficiently and to reduce student travel using the iFlex instructional mode (see description). The schedule has a mix of in-person class days and online instruction. For fall 2020, students can attend class at any of these sites via videoconferencing with iFlex scheduling (see Flexible learning tab.)

This program is also available 100% online within the iFlex instructional mode. Students are able to attend classes from home. NOTE: A minimum internet connection speed of 3 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload is required. The computer must use Windows 7 or newer operating system.
