You’ve read the scrolling captions for the hearing-impaired on your TV screen. The person providing this instantaneous text of programs is trained in realtime transcription techniques and technology. These skills can also be used to provide communication access realtime translation (CART) for hearing-impaired students in educational and public settings. If you’re an excellent listener, have strong language and communication skills, are committed to accuracy and able to work on deadlines, a career in broadcast captioning may be a perfect fit for your talents.

This program is available 100% online within the iFlex instructional mode. Students are able to attend classes from home. NOTE: A minimum internet connection speed of 3 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload is required. The computer must use Windows 7 or newer operating system.

Use verbatim methods and equipment to capture, store, retrieve, and transcribe pretrial and trial proceedings or other information. Includes stenocaptioners who operate computerized stenographic captioning equipment to provide captions of live or prerecorded broadcasts for hearing-impaired viewers.

  • Complete the Broadcast Captioning & Court Report Rental Equipment form.
  • Complete the Student Success Questionnaire.
  • Complete Technical Standards Form.
  • Schedule your First Time Program Counseling/Registration Session with your assigned program counselor to plan your first semester schedule, review your entire plan of study and discuss the results of the Student Success Questionnaire.

*Submit transcripts and test scores (optional, highly recommended): College transcripts, along with high school transcripts and test scores from within the last five years, used for course registration. Official transcripts needed for transferring college credit(s) and for financial aid purposes.

This rigorous program offers classes during the day, Monday through Thursday. 

Students are able to attend classes from home or, if attending from home is not a possibility, they can schedule a room at their local technical college, library or somewhere in their own community. NOTE: A minimum internet connection speed of 3 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload is required. The computer must use Windows 7 or newer operating system.

Designed to fit your life schedule, iFlex scheduling provides flexibility to attend courses through a blend of online and face-to-face, totally online, or flexing between these two modes on a weekly basis. Classes are not self-paced and have weekly deadlines. Students will have identical learning components (assessments and lecture materials, whether sitting in the classroom, attending synchronously through videoconferencing, or learning online).

This iFlex program is scheduled efficiently and reduces student travel to campus, with a mix of in-person class days and online instruction
