$1.3 Million Grant for Student Support Services Awarded to Lakeshore Technical College

CLEVELAND, WI —
Lakeshore Technical College (LTC) has been awarded $1.3 million over five years by the US Department of Education as part of its Student Support Services program. The purpose of the program, known at LTC as TRIO, is to increase college retention and graduation rates of participating students, facilitate their transfer from two-year to four-year colleges, and foster an institutional climate supportive of the success of low-income and first generation students, and students with disabilities.
“We are pleased to be selected for this grant which will allow the time and resources needed to provide each participant with holistic support as they work toward achieving educational goals,” said Rivi Hatt, TRIO/Student Support Services Director.
The program will serve 140 students annually with services including educational planning, academic support, academic and career advising, financial aid assistance, transfer advising, financial literacy, and leadership development opportunities. All services are provided at no cost to students. The grant also provides scholarships for eligible students.
Since 2015, an average of 93 percent of TRIO program participants have achieved good academic standing and 78 percent graduated with an associate degree or certificate.
