Transfer Agreements Between Lakeshore Technical College and Four-year Colleges Continue Growing

Students can save thousands of dollars in tuition, fees, housing and personal expenses

The number of transfer agreements between Lakeshore Technical College and four-year colleges continues growing and benefiting students throughout Lakeshore’s district.

“These agreements are more important than ever for students who want to earn a bachelor’s degree though are concerned about the costs and risks associated with moving away from home during the pandemic,” says Lakeshore Vice President of Instruction James Lemerond. “Students can safely obtain a high quality, affordable education close to home and be confident their courses and programs will seamlessly transfer when they are ready to make that move.”

All University of Wisconsin System campuses and 15 private in-state colleges have agreements with Lakeshore. The college also has agreements with public and private four-year colleges across the country for both on-campus and online education.  Over 300 program and course transfer options are involved, including general education and program-specific courses ranging from speech and psychology to accounting and chemistry.

Transfer agreements can save students thousands of dollars in tuition, fees, housing, and personal expenses. According to Lemerond, 73 percent of Lakeshore’s associate degree graduates who continue their education choose a four-year institution. The college estimates students save $6,000 in tuition and fees by staying at home and attending Lakeshore their first two years of college rather than attending a four-year college. The savings may be significantly higher when considering housing costs. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee estimates its 2020-21 housing costs for a shared room between $4,996 and $8,271.

Lakeshore has several transfer agreements with the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. The two institutions recently signed a new agreement allowing Lakeshore’s  Graphic and Web Design associate degree program graduates to seamlessly transfer to UWGB to complete its Bachelor of Arts degree in Design Art.
